arrival I was unable to take over personally from him the
records at Government House in accordance with Colonial
Regulation 175. Immediately on arrival however I went
through every loose paper, and made a list of every bound
volume in the Governor's Office. Search has since been
made in the Secretariat for the missing volumes without
success.
Practically all the records prior
to 1904 (local as well as those emanating from the Colonial
Office) are badly damaged by water and by white ants or
other insects, and I am now going carefully through these
with a view to restoring those which are capable of
restoration.
